GIS/LIS NEWS - Winter 2. Issue 5. 1 Zenk NGS Advisor. Zenk New NGS Advisor in Minnesotaby Dave Zenk PE, LSI accepted the position of National Geodetic Survey Advisor in Minnesota in January 2. Interacting with spatial organizations, such as the Minnesota GIS/LIS Consortium, is a fundamental part of the Advisor's role. The NGS State Geodetic Advisor instructs local surveyors, state and municipal agencies, and private entities on how to use and preserve the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS). The program provides for cooperation between the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) and the host state, with a jointly funded NGS employee residing in the state, to guide and assist the state. The State Advisor program is designed to meet the need for accurate local surveys and help states meet federal surveying standards and specifications. The Advisor: Educates and trains state personnel. Assists in planning and coordinating field surveys. Provides quality assurance.
Assists state personnel in preparing data for inclusion into NSRSServes as the primary contact for relating user needs to NGS and transferring new technical developments to local users. The National Geodetic Survey defines and manages the National Spatial Reference System, which determines position, height, distance, gravity, and shoreline throughout the United States. NGS provides its expertise and a wealth of free information, including direct access to its data base on the World Wide Web at: www. My personal goal is to support the fundamental relationship between the geodesy layer and other spatial layers, so that fundamental polygons that should match up, do match up. NGS has completed the transition from a primarily state geodetic advisor program, which covered only 24 participating states, to a new regional advisor program that covers the entire United States across 14 regions. I look forward to working with you. Dave Zenk, PE, LSOffice of Land Management, Geodetic Unit. Transportation Bldg. NGS Geodetic Advisor Program. NOAA employee (jointly funded by NOAA.
